Welcome to Reception!

We are delighted to welcome your child to Reception and to what promises to be a happy, exciting and rewarding year of learning. We look forward to working closely with you throughout the year to support your child as they develop their independence, build confidence, learn new skills and make new friends.

Reception is an important year in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). We have high expectations for learning, behaviour and personal development, while recognising that every child is unique and develops at their own pace. We encourage all children to follow our school behaviour expectations of Ready, Respectful, Safe. We celebrate children’s positive choices, kindness, effort and achievements regularly, helping them to develop a strong sense of pride and confidence in themselves.

Throughout the year, we will provide a wide range of engaging, hands-on learning experiences both indoors and outdoors. Our learning will follow the EYFS curriculum, supporting children to develop across the seven areas of learning (communication and language, physical development, personal social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world and expressive art and design).

To support your child’s learning at home, we ask that you:

• Read with your child every day and talk about the stories you share.
• Practise the sounds and words sent home as part of our phonics programme.
• Encourage your child to talk about their day, experiences and interests.
• Practise counting and recognising numbers through everyday activities.
• Encourage your child to become independent with dressing, using the toilet, tidying away and looking after their belongings.
• Provide opportunities for your child to develop their fine motor skills through activities such as drawing, colouring, cutting and puzzles.

We are very excited about the year ahead and look forward to sharing your child’s many wonderful experiences, discoveries and achievements with you.
