Welcome Cygnets and Ducklings!

A very warm welcome to Nursery! We are so pleased that your child joining us and we are looking forward to getting to know them and supporting their development throughout the year. Starting Nursery is a big step for children and their families. Our aim is to create a warm, nurturing and welcoming environment where every child feels happy, safe and valued. We want children to come into Nursery excited to explore, play, make friends and discover new things each day.

During their time with us, children will be encouraged to become increasingly independent and confident. They will learn to make choices, express their ideas and feelings, develop relationships with others and begin to take responsibility for themselves and their belongings. We understand that children develop at different rates, and we will celebrate each child’s individual progress and achievements.

Nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which covers seven areas of learning (communication and language, physical development, personal social and emotional development, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world and expressive art and design). Play is at the heart of everything we do in Nursery. Through play and exploration both indoors and outdoors, children will have opportunities to develop their language, social skills, independence, creativity and problem-solving skills while learning about the world around them.

We ask that you support your child’s development and learning at home by:

• Sharing stories, books and nursery rhymes together.
• Talking with your child about what they have been doing, seeing and experiencing.
• Encouraging them to explain their ideas, ask questions and talk about their feelings.
• Counting everyday objects, such as toys, stairs, plates or pieces of fruit.
• Encouraging your child to have a go at things independently, such as putting on their coat, getting dressed, using the toilet and tidying their toys.
• Giving them plenty of opportunities to draw, paint, use playdough, complete puzzles, build and practise using scissors.
• Spending time playing together and allow your child to lead the play and use their imagination.
